CHRISTINE VARDAROS – CYCLING COPYWRITER

Living in Leuven, Belgium

I am a cycling copywriter, journalist and professional cyclist (mtb, road, cyclocross) since 1999.

As a multi-discipline bike racer, I am intimately familiar with a wide range of cycling worlds from the underground “chug-a-beer-per-lap” crowd to the ultra-professional scene. I’ve ridden for top teams such as Belgium-based Lotto-Belisol, in addition to having competed for USA in over thirty combined World Cups and World Championships.

I spent the first part of my life split between Long Island and Manhattan. A few years after completing my studies at Columbia University, I relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1998 in hot pursuit of becoming a pro cyclist. It was there that I accepted my first industry writing gig as a weekly cycling columnist for the Marin Independent Journal, a high-circulation daily in the counties immediately north of San Francisco.

My enthusiasm for writing about my passion led me to pursue a career as freelancer for companies within the bicycle industry, eventually becoming an industry specialist as a cycling copywriter. I also have a public relations, sales and marketing background, which further widens my skillset.

My highest objective as a cycling copywriter is to captivate the reader, no matter the subject matter. To tell a compelling story, to increase your impact is what I love to do most. I excel at writing in a way that makes complicated concepts understandable to every reader so that they too can feel excitement for that material.

As a Dutch/Flemish to English translator, I am also adept at transcreation so that creative and emotional intent are seamlessly converted to English, which is key in the bike industry.

In my free time, I am an international public speaker as athlete spokesperson for In Defense of Animals, The Vegan Society, and Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine.

I also hold cyclocross clinics [in Flemish] in the winter for promising Belgian talent.
